Important: Anyone applying for a Limited Term License after July 1, 2025, will need to take the Class D, 24-Hour Driver Education Course prior to scheduling your Driving Tests with an Ohio Driver Examiner. This applies to temporary residents in the U.S. who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. If your Permit says "non-renewable, non-transferable," this requirement applies to you.

Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course

Who Must Take This Course?

    If you failed either the maneuverability test or the road test on your first attempt, you are required to complete the Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course before retaking the driving test.

    This course is available to drivers aged 21 or older.

Starting September 30, 2025:

  • ➀ If you are under 21 years of age and fail any portion of your driving test, you must complete the full Class D Driver's Education Program.
  • ➀ The Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course will no longer be accepted for drivers under 21.

Do not enroll in this course if you are:

  • βœ— Required to take an Adult Remedial Course
  • βœ— Under 21 years of age (effective September 30, 2025)

Note: If You Are Already Enrolled in the Abbreviated Adult Driver Training Course: You must complete your course and retest before September 30, 2025. If you do not, you will be required to take the full Class D Driver's Education program instead.

When Should You Take This Course?

    2-Point Credit:

    If you have 2 to 11 points on your license, this course may apply a 2-point credit.

  • 2
    Court-Ordered:

    Not for credit. You are ordered by a court to take the remedial program and will not receive a 2-point credit.

  • 3
    Juvenile Suspension:

    You are 19 years of age or older and are taking the course because of a juvenile suspension that occurred before the age of 18.

  • 4
    Suspension for OVI/OVUAC:

    Your driver's license was suspended due to being under the age of 21 and under the influence of alcohol while operating a vehicle.

  • 5
    12-Point Suspension:

    The certificate is provided to the BMV as part of the requirements for being eligible to retain or have the driver's license returned due to a 12-point suspension.
